Sleep Pointe Partners with ACS to use TripPak Truck Stop SCANNING™ to capture sleep disorder data for fleets
DALLAS: December 18, 2009 – ACS Expedited Solutions today announced a new fleet solution offering carriers a complete sleep apnea safety compliance reporting system. Sleep Pointe is partnering with ACS to use the TripPak Truck Stop SCANNING™ network as the first network to offer fleets a complete sleep apnea compliance solution.
Studies show a high percentage of drivers suffer from sleep apnea, a chronic condition that disrupts sleep when breathing pauses or becomes shallow, resulting in poor sleep quality and fatigue when awake. Sleep apnea is a leading cause of interstate crashes. The National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) has recommended requiring sleep apnea screening for drivers.
“These new federal recommendations will impact how fleets do business,” said Kelley Walkup, division vice president and general manager for ACS Expedited Solutions. “This partnership with Sleep Pointe provides a complete solution. Crash-related litigation due to sleep matters is a growing risk for carriers. With this new solution, carriers can pinpoint at-risk drivers who suffer from sleep apnea and take a proactive approach to safety and compliance.”
Sleep Pointe provides diagnostic and treatment solutions for the transportation industry, including the auto-titrating positive airway pressure (APAP) machines commonly used to treat sleep apnea. APAP machines collect driver data that is beneficial for carriers in fighting litigation, providing documentation relating to existing and upcoming regulations and more. Drivers who use the Sleep Pointe APAP machines now have the ability to send data from their machine through the TripPak Truck Stop SCANNING™ network to a Sleep Pointe compliance portal managed by ACS.
“Perhaps the most critical factor to consider when designing and implementing a sleep apnea management program is the compliance management system,” said Duke Naipohn, president and CEO for Sleep Pointe. “Studies have shown that compliance, if unsupported, results in compliance levels that fall below 40 percent. To get the best returns from a sleep apnea management investment, you clearly have to both support the drivers during their initial compliances phase, as well as manage their use over time. This partnership with ACS allows Sleep Pointe to provide a best-in-class compliance model for a fraction of existing compliance cost."
ACS Expedited Solutions is partnering with fleets of all sizes to test the new technology, and Prime, Inc. is already an advocate for the solution. “We understand the risk of sleep apnea, and it is vital to recognize, diagnose and treat this issue. But that is just the beginning – you must make certain that compliance and usage is complete,” said John Hancock, member of Prime, Inc. management team. “We are pleased with the commitment of ACS and Sleep Pointe to make this a priority by providing a complete solution to carriers. This partnership stands alone as the only one that completes the gap in providing a full sleep screening, treatment and compliance solution, and more importantly provides accessibility to the driver. Sleep Pointe provides the diagnostic expertise, and ACS brings the compliance piece.”
